Vacation, gifts, blessings ad time away from blogging

Yep, so many things going on right now, which is one of the reasons I’ve been away from the computer.  So I’m going to try to condense what has happened in a simple blog post.  🙂

Paul had a nine day vacation and we did lots of different things around our town and a neighboring town. Besides movies and bowling, we relaxed at home a lot too.  Paul really needed some down time, and it was nice doing things at home together.  Then we had a dear blog friend and her family visit on Monday night through Thursday morning.  It was a great time, and the Lord truly blessed us with some dear friends we got to know more.  Again, I wrote a bit about their visit here.

Paul went back to work on Thursday, and the kids and I will go back to school next week.  Actually, Paul has Monday and Tuesday off, so we won’t be starting school back up again until Wednesday.  I don’t need to tell you how excited we are about that.  🙂

After we said goodbye to friends and Paul went to work on Thursday I got to dive into what has been keeping me busy for the past 2 days.  It was a gift from a family member, and I can’t tell you how thrilled I am by it.  Here’s my new gift.

Yep, a new Dell laptop.  It is truly a blessing and an answer to prayer.   I’ve been praying about some different things I am to do, and one of the things Paul and I feel like I can do is take some online classes.  Some different topics on photography, website building, and other miscellaneous computer things.  Between online classes and working with my photography it would be nice to have an area I could work on those things.  But with school starting up again the kids use both the other computers for school, and Paul uses the computer when he gets home at night.  I know, it was nothing life or death or even a crisis.  Paul and I had planned on putting a little away here and there and eventually save up for one.  But when this blessing came our way, we knew it was an answer to prayer.

It’s a simple machine, nothing fancy, but it does everything we need it to do.  But truthfully I’ve never had a new computer that needed so much updating.  I spent a day and a half updating drivers for all the different parts of the laptop.  I ended up taking a break at one point, didn’t update the USB port driver, and that gave me hassles.  Then after all the updating, I had to put on my programs, move all my data over and things like that.  Now, please don’t think I’m complaining.  Anyone who knows me knows how much fun this has been for me the past couple of days!  🙂  Paul even came home the first night and I was telling him the hassles I was having with the drivers and USB port.  He just smiled at me and said, “But you are enjoying these hassles aren’t you?”  Oh, he knows me so well.

It was funny though.  The laptop was originally suppose to be delivered on the 6th.  It was longer than I had wanted, but worked out well with friends coming in on the 29th, visiting the 30th and 31st and we had family plans on the 31st also.  Then I see that the delivery time has been changed and now it was to be delivered on the 30th!  Which if it was, there would be no time working on it.  So yes, it was delivered on the 30th, and I tucked it away in my bedroom, not even opening it.  I was having way to much fun with our friends to even think about it.  I did open it that evening before bed, but barely did anything with it.  Then the next day between spending the morning with family and the afternoon and evening with our friends, it just wasn’t on my mind.  I didn’t even look at it that night, just too tired.  So the first day I really spent any time on it was Thursday after everyone left, 2 whole days after it was delivered.  Again, if you knew me, you would know how big that was.  My family and friends did.  But truthfully, it really wasn’t a big issue for me.  I was having way to much fun, and I knew I could spend some time on it after things settled down.

So today I finally have it all set up the way I want.  Drivers are all updated, programs are installed and I even have my pictures downloaded on it.  🙂  Besides all of that I’ve done some reading and playing with my new word search book.  Those closest to me know that I really enjoy word searches.  I’m not too good with cross word puzzles, but I do like word search books.  I was blessed with a new, big book of word search puzzles.

Plus, with my new laptop I’m getting ready to do a major overhaul of my blog and website.  I have a website and this blog, plus two other blogs, but I’m going to merge them together, making a new site, and an easier way to keep all my online work together.  But it is a huge undertaking, and one I still need help with.  I was blessed with the book that I needed to help me get everything set up and moved over.  I found some help online when I tried it before, but this book has so much more information.

I’ve already started reading it, but really need to work on my site and read it at the same time.   I’m hoping to start that major project next week some time.  Probably sometime after we start getting in the flow of things.  I’ll just wait and see how things are going.

So that is my ‘condensed’ version of things that have been going on here lately.  Now that things are slowing down, and I have access to another computer, I hope to be blogging again more regularly.  That’s my desire anyway.  Who knows how it will actually play out.  🙂
