Word and goals for the year

Like a lot of you, I seek the Lord and ask Him to show me a word and/or phrase and bible verse for the year. Last years word was intimacy, growing more intimate with the Lord. My verse was the first part of Philippians 3:10, that I may know Him. Honestly, I had forgotten that was my word and verse part of the year last year. Then I was reading in Philippians and saw that I had noted that it was my word and verse for 2011. I’m so glad I make notes in my bible. I did finish up the year trying to grow in my intimacy with the Lord.

This year my word is a bit different, but I know it’s the word the Lord has for me, FULL. Yep that’s my word for the year, full, and when one is full, they are satisfied. My focus is to know the Lord’s love and be filled with Him. Full, satisfied, with the Lord and what He has for me (with food, possessions, daily things to do etc…) My verse is Ephesians 3:19 – And to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God. I really like the Amplified version: That you may really come to know practically, through experience for yourselves the love of Christ, which far surpasses mere knowledge without experience; that you may be filled through all your being unto all the fullness of God may have the richest measure of the divine Presence, and become a body wholly filled and flooded with God Himself. That is what my goal is, to know Christ’s love for me practically, through experiencing it, and that I will be full with Him. I know for me to get even remotely close to this, it will be all the Lord, I can not do it myself. I’m thankful He never leaves me nor forsakes me. Thank you Lord.

I don’t do resolutions, but I do like making goals.  I also have my fitness goals that I will be blogging about every Friday on Fit Mommy Fridays. But as Paul and I were talking tonight over dinner (we were on a grocery shopping date 😀 ), we started talking about personal goals we would like to achieve this year. I’m trying hard not to make so many far reaching goals I can never achieve any of them. But I also want to make sure I have something to reach for, as the Lord leads. I’m continuing to pray about these, so they may change. But for now these are my main goals.

* Memorize my ‘basement’ verses (referring to a bible study I just finished). Meaning verses that are my foundation for my walk with the Lord.
* Continue to learn loom knitting.
* Make some loom knitted and crocheted things to keep on hand for gifts for friends and family.
* Start learning Spanish again. We have Rosetta Stone and I was learning it so Sarah and I could speak it together for practice. I’ve barely worked on it this school year. 🙁 I hope to start it back up again. Maybe not daily, but I really do want to try and work on it more.
* Learn to be more intentional about my days (I’ll blog about that soon).

Those are my top five goals for now. I do have other personal goals of being a better wife, mother and Christian woman, but honestly, those are personal to me and I don’t feel like blogging about them right now.

So how about you, do you have a word and/or verse for the year? What about your goals, do you make a new list at the beginning of the year, or just keep doing what you’ve been doing? I would love to hear what you do.

  1. I like your word for the year, full is a great word.
I haven’t focused on goals for the past couple of years but maybe I should do that soon.

  2. I Like the word Full/Satisfied and verse! Very meaningful. And I like the idea of memorizing the basement verses. Wishing you a wonderful new year!!!

  3. Full is a wonderful word to focus on for 2012. I love reading all the “words” that people choose to focus on. I do not plan to have a “word” myself, nor am I going to make resolutions. As you know, I am taking mine in bite sized monthly goals. I guess that is my resolution, to keep up the monthly goals! 🙂
