Updating my sites

I haven’t written anything new this week, but I have been busy updating and adding new widgets and gadgets to my sites.  The other thing I’ve done is updated my Firefox to 4.0.  It’s a huge change compared to the old Firefox, but I can handle most of the changes.  There’s only one change I really didn’t like and that is they took the RSS feed icon out of my tool bar (now called the Awesome bar).  Why they did that, I don’t know.  But I wanted it back, and thankfully I found some addons that would do that.

There’s the RSS Icon in Awesomebar add-on and the RSS Icon add-on.  I have tried them both and like them, but I like the look of the RSS Icon better.  Looks more like the old one.  I guess I’m just a creature of habit.

My first week working at home

I can’t believe I’ve been working at home for a week now, but it’s officially a week today.  I finally feel like all the foundation work is done, and I can just write articles, which is exactly what I’ve been doing.  I’ve got a total of of 5 articles written on Squidoo (click here to see them) and one on HubPages (click here).  My latest Squidoo article won’t show on my list until tomorrow, so if you want to read what I wrote about my iPod Touch tonight, you can go here.  I haven’t designed anything on Zazzle this week.  I will admit, that will be my weak point I think.  I’m just more comfortable writing than designing.

Getting into a groove with working has been interesting.  I find the hardest thing is staying focused when I’m writing.  And the main problem is, I tend to put a movie in while I’m writing, and then I get all distracted with the movie.  And what shouldn’t take me that long to write, ends up taking me longer than the movie, because I keep stopping what I’m doing to watch the movie.  I think when I want to write, I need to just take my laptop to the kitchen table or something, where I’m not distracted by what’s going on in the living room.  That way I’m using my time more wisely, and can get things finished in a good time, instead of feeling like I’m working all day because I have the laptop in front of me even though I’m not getting anything done.  Yep, this is definitely going to be a work in progress.  :)

I’m also learning how to become involved in the forums where I write.  I know it’s the best place to learn and meet people, but that too is a balancing act.  I could spend hours reading things in there and not getting any writing done.  But yet I need to network, so it is a necessity.  Knowing the way I work, I’ll should probably make some sort of routine where I write my articles, and when I’m done with everything, go to the forum for a bit, then shut down my work.  That would probably work the best for me.  I’ll have to try that.

Overall though I am enjoying working at home.  I’m meeting some great people, and really learning a lot.  Now if I can just learn to not put on movies when I write, I’ll really be doing good.  :)
