Cameras, photos and outside

We’ve had a good week, and the weather finally feels more summer like.  We even had a fire in our fire pit!  I’ll be sharing photos tomorrow on my other blog.  Today I was outside most of the day.  I actually did some weeding in our front yard.  Never my favorite chore, but I did enjoy being outside.  Then I had my lunch outside, did some reading outside, hubby & I walked for a bit, then sat in our back yard and talked a little before he went out with a friend.  Like everyone else, I really enjoy the days I can get outside.  I even waited until this evening before being online so I could enjoy the outside.

We went and looked at cameras the other day.  No, we don’t have the money saved, and truthfully I still think I might spend it on something more for the family.  A fun family outing or something like that.  Paul said since the money came from my family I should spend it.  But he really wants me to spend it on something for me.  I just don’t see us having the extra money we need any time soon.  Plus, there are so many other things for the family I can think of spending it on.  So we’ll see.  But we thought it would be fun to look at some cameras anyway.  The one we wanted looks so nice, but the best part was talking to the guy at the shop.  He gives photography classes and everything.  Yes, I would love to take one of his classes some day if I get my DSLR.  He was very honest in the fact that if you are not going to take your DSLR camera out of auto mode, you might as well not spend the money for it and get a real nice point and shoot.  Because the true benefit of a DSLR is using it manually.  That really got me thinking, and being more adventurous with my point and shoot.  Because my point and shoot is considered and advanced model, I do have more manual settings on it than most point and shoots.

So when we were out at the fire pit I decided to manually set the white balance and the ISO!!!!  That was a big step for me.  I had studied about what those settings were before, I still don’t remember a lot about them.  But it was fun trying different settings and seeing the differences.  I have to say, I think my pictures came out clearer than they normally do.  And it has made me want to join up with Mommytography again even more.  I think I might do that this weekend.  So make sure you check out my other blog tomorrow to see my fire pit pictures, but here are two I took today with a manual setting.  I like the bright blue sky we had this afternoon.  I think they turned out pretty good, what do you think?
