Weekly ramblings

I’m thinking of starting a category called ‘weekly ramblings’ because it seems like I only get on once a week to just ramble. Oh, well, at least you get to see what I’ve been up to, right? :)

It’s been a good week, though at times I’ve felt totally scattered, like today. Too many things happening all at the same time and too many people talking at the same time. After my Fit Mommy Friday post from last Friday I got into a vegetable conversation on twitter with some friends. We were talking about different ways to get veggies in our diets (like zucchini in our brownies, my favorite way, chocolate ;) ). My friend Lynn mentioned some books that talk about ‘hiding’ veggies in different foods. I found a couple of the books at my library, and picked up one of them yesterday, The Sneaky Chef, though I don’t like the rest of the title. I think the book has some great ideas, but I have to say her talking so much about men not liking veggies rubs me wrong. I really don’t care that a majority of men don’t like veggies, my husband does, and the way she is always talking about ‘tricking’ them is irritating. But the recipes and how she adds veggies to different meals sounds very interesting. Just like any new style of cooking, making these different recipes will cost a bit to get started, so I don’t know that I will try it any time soon. But I do like the ideas and will probably try some of the recipes in the future.

Paul and I went out on a date day yesterday, and we had such a great time. He took me to lunch at a, new to us, restaurant. It’s an family owned, cafe type restaurant, with huge portion sizes, great food and a homey atmosphere. We will definitely be going back again. Oh, and just so you know, I only ate part of my lunch, and took the rest home. ;) We went to the library and looked around a bit, stopped by our local camera store and looked at some things (I’ll be posting what I got on my creativity blog in the next day or so) and talked to the owner for a while. Then of course we ended the date at the local Starbucks in Barnes & Noble chatting and walking around the store looking at books. I really enjoy just spending time with him, and the talks we get to have over lunch. We try and go out on a date every couple of weeks to at least once a month. It’s not always financially possible to eat out those times, but we at least make an effort to get out.

I’ve been busy with my crafts too, and my mom bought me another Knifty Knitter loom. They really are so much fun. I can’t wait for my set of round looms to get here tomorrow. I read that the smallest loom is perfect for making baby hats, and since my nephew’s wife is due soon, I think I will try and make them one. Here is the one I got the other day.

See the picture on the label? I want to make that style purse with the yarn that’s in the picture. Right this second the directions look at bit hard, but truthfully I think it’s the week I’ve been having. Like I said, just feeling scattered and pulled in different directions at once. But I do think the variegated yarn will be cute in a purse. Have I ever mentioned that I love the look of colored things, except for me? Yep, I think a purple purse looks so cute, and I can see almost anyone else having a purse like that, except for me. For me, I always lean toward neutral colors. Hmmm, does that mean I’m ‘afraid’ of colors? ;)

I went to a dinner with some friends from the woman’s bible study I go to on Tuesdays. We’ve been on a break for a couple of weeks, and we had a dinner yesterday to just get together since we hadn’t seen each other in a while. It was a fun time and it was so nice to see my friends again. We’ll be starting our bible studies again in a couple of weeks.

I’m off to write a post about the fun thing I just bought myself at the camera store. I really enjoy getting money for Christmas. :D

Fit Mommy Friday

So how am I doing on this Fit Mommy Friday, well I’m doing much better. I still haven’t started my workouts (more on that in a minute), but I’m not feeling nearly as tired as I was feeling. I started doing some gentle walking in the afternoons last week, before the snow hit, and I’m still feeling good. I’ve also been cleaning and doing laundry without feeling overly tired. Only a couple of times was I truly exhausted after cleaning or laundry, but I would get run down a bit easy. But lately, I’ve been feeling just fine after doing the work.

I was suppose to go for my next blood test this last Monday, but I felt like I was starting to get a head cold. And though I am feeling better, I was a bit run down after the holidays. So I got in touch with my doctor and asked him if instead of testing one last time this month, if I could wait until the end of the year. He was fine with that. Truthfully, I just knew my numbers were probably on the low side, and I just didn’t want to see that again. :( I figure, give me another month to build up my workout schedule, and then take the test, when I’m feeling 100%.

Which leads me to my workout schedule. Those of you who have been reading my blog for a bit know how much I’ve been wanting to use T-Tapp, but that the DVD I’m borrowing just isn’t the right one for me. I wanted the one called MORE which they label as a rehab workout, and as much as I hate to admit it, with my back and hip, I do need that kind work out for now. But it’s normally $70 plus $8 shipping, and I just couldn’t see spending that much money for a workout DVD. Truthfully it’s about 5 or 6 workouts on the DVD, but still, it was money I didn’t have. So I gave up on it and just concentrated on resting and getting my body stronger. This month it went on sale, 20% off. Still, a bit high, but I was encouraged. I didn’t even think of checking the site on Cyber Monday, but on Tuesday they sent an email saying the Cyber Monday sale was extended for another day. That was good, because I didn’t get the original email announcing a Cyber Monday sale (maybe that’s why they extended it). Anyway the sale was for another 20% off (that’s 40% off total) and free shipping, bringing the price down to $45. Still a bit high, but I knew I wasn’t going to find it much cheaper than that. The only thing that bummed me out was I had spent some of the money I was going to use for it and I didn’t think I had that much left. I checked my account, and I had gotten another payment from someone buying things through my Amazon link on my home page! What a blessing that was. So I got on the phone and ordered it right away. Obviously I don’t have it yet, but I’m so thankful that I got it.

So my plan is to start working out with the DVD as soon as it gets here, but I also want to add some cardio workout to. I don’t want to do a full aerobic workout plus the T-Tapp, because truthfully some say that T-Tapp is a good cardio workout by itself. I would like to be able to go out for walks but not sure I will be able too. It gets pretty cold around here, and I don’t really have the clothing to wear when walking. This morning is was 18 and cloudy out. I would like to go get some clothes for running/walking in cold weather, not sure I could afford them right now. Not that I would be running, but a friend who runs says there’s this great type of clothing to wear out here in the cold to run/walk outside. I’ll have to check and see what they are. Since our mornings are pretty cold, unless I buy something warmer to wear, it’s just not an option right now.

I’ve also thought of bringing out my stationary bike. I had wrapped it up with plastic and stored it away in our garage. With my workout DVD’s I was doing, and my walking (and learning to run, though I never did get real far with that before I hurt my hip and got sick), I wasn’t using it much. It was taking up room in my bedroom, so we stored it away. But now I’m thinking of bringing out of storage and using it. The problem is where to put it, the spot where we had it is being used now. So I’ve been looking around the house, thinking about it. Until I decide, I will probably do some Wii Fit Plus workouts along with T-Tapp. I’m so glad that I have some different options. And truthfully the Wii Fit Plus workouts are pretty good for me. So on cold mornings like this, that’s what I’m going to do (right after I finish this post ;) ).

I did pretty good with my portion sizes over the holiday’s, not perfect, but ok. The times that I did overeat I realized, that though I ate more than my body was needing, I still ate a lot less compared to last year. I know it’s still something I need to work on, but I’m happy to see that comparatively I am doing better with it. I also noticed with my age and IBS-C I deal with, eating six smaller meals throughout the day does a lot better for me. It’s just such a hard habit to start. I’m so use to eating 3 meals a day, with desserts right after the meal. Even if I could just hold off on the dessert until a few hours later, I know it would help my body. Why is it I know what works well for my body, but just can’t seem to do that? Please tell me I’m not alone with this. ;) I’ve also been praying and asking the Lord to change my desires for what I want to eat. I don’t know why I’m shocked by His answering my prayers, but I actually think my desires are changing, just a little. I’m a meat and taters kind of gal, and there aren’t too many veggies I will eat. But lately I’ve had a craving for my homemade romaine lettuce and chicken salad. Nothing major, just some romaine lettuce, chicken or turkey chunks and a couple of other things. It’s a small salad, and nothing big, but for those who know me, for me to crave any kind of salad (other than a creamy potato or pasta salad) is shocking. ;) I’m not saying I’m craving veggies or anything like that (yet ;) ), but I’m blessed that I’m seeing little changes.
