Bread pan size makes a difference

I never knew that the size of a bread pan could really make a difference in the way my wheat bread turns out. I thought if I had a bigger pan, the loaf would just turn out bigger. But I could never get my loaves to ‘look’ right. Thankfully they’ve always tasted good. But I’ve really been trying to learn how to roll my loaves right and make them look nice.

I was excited to find a way to bake bread during the summer without having it heat up the house, I use my roaster oven! I had put a picture of it on my FB page, laughing at how my loaves looked, see…

But then my friend told me to try smaller bread pans. I asked her if they would really make a difference, and she said for wheat bread, yes. I found some simple, smaller bread pans (8×4) at the store and finally gave it a try, and you know what? Success!

The only thing I did wrong this time was that I didn’t roll it tight enough and there was a hole in the middle of one of the loaves. I can never quite flatten the dough in a proper shaped rectangle, so the rolling is always a little off. But I was surprised that using the smaller pans really did help. I can’t wait to try some more loaves and really get better at rolling the dough tight enough and having them look like normal loaves. But this week has been VBS week, so no major baking for me until after Friday. 😉

  3. Never thought of doing that! I haven’t had much of a kitchen to cook in for the past month, and it has really been too hot to bake bread, but I do want to get back into it soon. I’ve been making bread in the breadmaker, but I do like making it by hand. I don’t have a roaster oven though.
