My week

I know that’s a pretty lame title, but honestly, that’s what this blog post is going to be about. 🙂

I have felt like I’ve been stuck in my house, and not able to come and go as I please. What has been making me feel like this? It’s that dreaded time of waiting for a serviceman to come to our house. We had a bit of a flood in our kitchen on Thanksgiving morning. We cleaned it up, ran fans on the carpet, and honestly didn’t think about it anymore. That was until about 1 1/2 weeks later when we started getting a weird odor in the house. Long story short, water had gotten into our heating ducts and sat there for that time. We have a heater duct right next to the washer, why none of us thought to check the ducts when we were cleaning I don’t know. Our landlord is the best, and he was right on the issue getting service men over to look at the issue, and that’s where my feeling of confinement started. I couldn’t go anywhere or do anything because every day there was a chance of a service man coming over. One day we even cancelled a trip to see my parents and the serviceman blew us off!!! 🙁 My landlord wasn’t happy either and obviously didn’t go with that guy. He was about ready to put us up in a hotel when finally he got a guy to come drain the duct work and then eventually just took out the bad duct work and replaced it with new ducts. But for about a week there was always a ‘chance’ that a worker would be coming by and someone needed to be here. Ugh. I’m blessed that it’s all done now, and I have to freedom again to come and go as I please.

One of the things I missed the most was being able to get together with friends for coffee. I never knew what my schedule would be, so I couldn’t schedule anything. Well today a friend text me to ask if I was available for coffee, was I?!?! You bet I was. I was going to make soup for Paul this morning but he said forget about it and go out with my friend. He knew I needed some time away. My friend and I chatted for about 2 hours today. She’s a newer friend, so it was so nice to get to know her a bit more and to see our friendship grow.

Yesterday I had to take both of the kids to the doctor’s. We all use to go to the same family doctor, but Sarah and I now go to the woman doctor in the group, the boys still go to our original male doctor. So we had to move from one room to another so that the kids could see there respective doctors. We were all laughing about it. Our doctor’s office is the best, and they know us well (not sure if that’s a good thing or not lol). Anyway, Sarah is having some serious skin issues, so we were referred to a dermatologist, which we saw today. She’s on some new cream to take away the spots on her hands and she has a whole new set of soaps and lotions to try to see if it helps. She has always had very sensitive skin, and we are honestly thinking she might be allergic to her contact solution. It’s the only thing that has really changed in her life, and that touches her hands every day. There’s this new one that Paul’s been using that you don’t have to rinse the contacts, and it works well. She’s trying that now, along with the cream and new soaps. We go back to the doctor on the 20th, hopefully there will be some improvement.

Paulie had to go in because his ears were plugged. When he couldn’t hear something Sarah had said to him, when she was pretty close to him, I knew it was time to get him in. 😉 I will save you from the gross details of how much wax they took out of both of his ears. Lets just say they worked on him for over a half hour, and that I’ve never seen the size of ‘stuff’ come out of an ear. He just had his hearing and ears checked probably a year or so ago, and they were fine then. He likes that he can now hear again. I keep kidding with him that we can’t talk about him anymore. lol 😀

Thankfully my week is finally slowing down a bit. Paul and I get to go on a date tomorrow, lunch and Christmas shopping for the kids. We can’t wait to go spend the day together. If we are up to it we are going to go see a Christmas play at our old church tomorrow night. The director of the play is a close family friend, so we always try and see her shows. It’s the only night free for Paul, so I hope we can make it. Then this Friday we have a church Christmas party to go to. It should be a lot of fun. I am really trying to make some more friends from my new church, so I’m looking forward to a night of a fun party to get to know others.

And what’s the last great thing that happens this week? This Thursday is the last day of school until after the first of the year!!!!! Yep, this teacher is always just as excited as the kids about our breaks. 😀 It means we get to start doing some serious baking, watching Christmas movies and just enjoying the season. I hope you are all having a blessed week.

  1. so glad everything is done, and going good. Glad Paulie can hear again. Pray Sarah’s skin problem is taken care of too. Glad you finally have your time back. Love

  2. Wow, that was a miserable week! What a good landlord you have, though. I can hardly believe how good that man is. You must be enjoying your holidays now, though!

We’ve had a very busy and stressful few weeks, nothing I can post about, and I’m glad we’re settling into normal again too. My two at-home teens went to see the Hobbit last night, and we’ve all taken naps today. I’ve got to finish my new physio exercises and walk and then we’re off to prepare for tonight’s concert. My husband is going straight from work because otherwise he couldn’t make it on time, so we’ll be driving both vehicles. It will feel funny. And then on Sunday Sinter Klaas will visit our home, 10 days late. So it’s a happy exciting time now, for which I’m thankful.

  3. I feel the same way when work has to be done here. I’m still waiting on a painter and some tile work. I hope they wait until after Christmas. Glad all is well.
