Thanksgiving week

I still can’t believe that this is Thanksgiving week. I know it’s early this year, but it just seems so early. We are having some warm weather too (which I’m not complaining about), but that makes it feel even more like it’s too early for Thanksgiving. But since it is Thanksgiving week, it’s time to plan. 🙂

First, an appliance update. We are doing well with no microwave. Today was a little more interesting after church because it took longer for us to make lunch, and I was quite hungry. But it all worked out in the end. Our landlord replaced our dishwasher with one that is only about a year old!!! 😀 This thing is sooo nice. It’s a Frigidaire, pretty much like this one. It is completely different to wash with it now, it cleans so nicely. This is such a huge blessing before Thanksgiving. We can also get our stove looked at and worked on, the question is, will we be able to get an appliance repair man here this week? I doubt it. But at least we got the ok to get it worked on. Paul will call a friend of ours (who is an appliance repair man) and see what he can do. I’m not holding my breathe that it will get done this week, but at least it will get done eventually. So our appliance woes are just about over. I’m thankful to the Lord that He has given us a pretty new dishwasher and that our stove will be fixed soon.

This Thanksgiving we’ll be having dinner over at our friends house. We’ve been having Thanksgiving dinner with them for about 5 years now, since we’ve lived in this part of Idaho. We have such fun over there. We enjoy yummy food together, play games and just enjoy each others company. I’m looking forward to Thursday.

Then on Friday we’ll be making our own Thanksgiving dinner so that we can have some leftovers for ourselves. 😀 We’ll also be putting up our Christmas tree and decorations. Anyone who has followed this blog for any length of time knows that we always put up our Christmas decorations the day (or now the first day Paul has off) after Thanksgiving. It will be a fun time with the family, watching It’s A Wonderful Life, eating a turkey dinner, and putting up the decorations. I’m so happy because Paul has Thursday through Saturday off, 3 days in a row! It will be a great weekend together.

We have a pretty simple menu, nothing really fancy, turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, dressing, veggie, dinner rolls, gravy, apple crisp and pumpkin pie. Plus on Thanksgiving day itself, our friend is making some twice baked potatoes, and she usually has a few appetizers. Pretty simple fare, but something we will all enjoy.

The only down side of this whole week is that I’m dealing with a cold. I had it worse last week, nothing too horrible, but it would make me tired quite easy. I felt better this weekend, so I started doing some things, and now I’m feeling run down again. I did get all our grocery shopping done today, that is great. Tomorrow I want to clean the house, but Paul keeps telling me to just relax and rest. I’ll see how I feel tomorrow, and maybe get a bit of cleaning done. I know I could rest a whole lot better this week if I can get the cleaning done and not have it hanging over my head. There’s a fellowship night at our church tomorrow night too, which I really wanted to go to, but I just don’t know that I will. I really want to feel better for Thanksgiving so we’ll see if I go or not.

Other than those plans, our week is free and clear. We’ve taken the whole week off of school so that leaves lots of family time, cooking, baking and resting. It should be a good week. How about you? What are your plans this week? Are you going to be super busy with Thanksgiving preparations and holiday plans or will it be a pretty simple and easy week for you?

  1. Sounds like you have a nice Thanksgiving week ahead of you. Our will be busy with getting ready for hubby’s dad to arrive. We’ll do school Mon. and Tues. then off for the rest of the week. Wed. is my baking day (pies and bread). Wishing you and yours many blessings. Heather

  2. I will be working at the center today, but then the rest of the week relax. I will be making the turkey Thanksgiving day and the potatoes and salad, then Carrie and her crew will do the rest. You have to clean after the Holiday, don’t worry about deep cleaning today. haha I know thats hard for you to do. Looking forward to it all. Praying that the cold that is trying to attach to you, leaves. Be blessed and healed. Love

  3. I can’t believe it is here already, too. We’re hosting, so I need to be diligent this week. I also need the kids to do 3 solid days of school work, so it is a little challenging. We will make it. Good to hear you have progress on the appliances!

  4. Sounds like a good week for your family. I hope you feel better. I have a very simple week. I am going to my daughter Deidre’s house in NH for Thanksgiving leaving Wednesday morning nad coming back Friday or Saturday. Haven’t made up my mind yet about that.
Have a fun week. Happy Thanksgiving!
